SCIENCE GRADUATES WANTED

 

The Role

Independent Vascular Services Ltd are seeking to recruit dynamic and motivated science graduates for a number of trainee vascular scientist positions based in the North West. You will be trained to scan to a high level, performing and reporting the full range of vascular ultrasound investigations including carotid, upper and lower limb arterial and venous scans and EVAR and graft surveillance scans. You will work alongside vascular surgeons and vascular nurses and be a part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team. You will be assigned a base hospital in the Pennine or Manchester region, and an element of travel between sites is required.

 

The Requirements

Trainees will be expected to complete post-graduate study in vascular ultrasound and undertake the Society for Vascular Technology of Great Britain and Ireland Accreditation exams. Experienced vascular scientists/sonographers and STP graduates, preferably with SVT Accreditation are also invited to apply. Salary will be determined based on prior experience.

We require a minimum 2:1 life sciences degree. Experience of vascular ultrasound is advantageous but not essential and candidates must have a good understanding of maths and physics. Full driving license and access to a car are essential.

Vascular Unit Manager

 

Salary Scale: £35-45K plus benefits dependent on qualifications and experience

Applications are sought for a Clinical Vascular Scientist to become a Vascular Lab Manager as part of the IVS team in the Greater Manchester area. The successful managerial applicant should possess full SVT accreditation. Applicants would also be very welcome from STP/PgC qualified vascular scientists who want to build their career, salary would be commensurate with experience.

IVS Ltd is the largest independent provider of vascular diagnostic ultrasound services in the UK, collectively performing over 80,000 ultrasound scans per year in both the NHS and private healthcare sector. Leading the way in 3D ultrasound for vascular applications and the first vascular labs in the UK to hold the UKAS IQIPS Accreditation. IVS operates a 7 day service at some of its sites and staff are expected to work some weekends where generous additional weekend pay rates apply. We are currently expanding our vascular team in preparation for service expansion.

 

We are looking for an innovative individual to drive the development of our Vascular Lab in the Royal Oldham Hospital, we want it to become a research and training hub in the north of the city. Experience using contrast enhanced ultrasound would be advantageous but full training will be provided. It currently undertakes 7,500 vascular ultrasound investigations per annum and works closely with 6 vascular surgeons and 3 vascular radiologists. The patient demographic is varied and you will see the full range of vascular disease and conditions.

In exchange, you will be expected to run a staff of 4 vascular scientists. You will be part of the management team and communicate well with colleagues, co-ordinating staffing, training and facilitating research. You would need to help maintain our UKAS accreditation, attend Executive meetings, MDT meetings and also undertake the full range of vascular ultrasound investigations.

Due to the variable nature of the work, the successful applicant must be able to rapidly settle into new working environments and communicate effectively with peers, patients and clinicians. An ability to work with a range of imaging equipment is an obvious advantage

The successful applicant will have their own vehicle and be willing to travel as required to cover local centres according to a pre-arranged rota.

In addition to a managerial position (band 7/8a position) available at our Pennine site based at Royal Oldham NHS Hospital - IVS also has a number of band 6/7 positions available depending on experience based in the North West, including full and part time positions.
