Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG's)

Until recently good, quality vascular diagnosis was only available via consultant referral and a charge to the GP practice of £247. Through Any Qualified Provider (AQP) status GPs can now refer patients directly for diagnostic ultrasound for as little as £47.

Leg or arm pain on exercise can be difficult to diagnosis and may be due to vascular, muscular or neurological pathologies. Simple ultrasound tests can confirm arterial and venous disease, identify rare vascular/neurological problems such as thoracic outlet/popliteal entrapment or simply exclude a vascular cause leading to more appropriate investigation and treatment.

Ultrasound Quality Guaranteed

Unlike other ultrasound companies IVS specialises in the delivery of vascular diagnosis using the most up to date, highest quality ultrasound equipment.

Not all results are the same!

Our results are highly regarded by consultants specialising in vascular disease, stroke and deep vein thrombosis. Consultants often request repeat investigations by IVS as they find the results of other providers unreliable. Accurate diagnosis by IVS can often avoid more expensive investigations such as CT and MR scans.

Flexible local services

IVS provides services at 15 NHS and 4 independent hospitals across the North West.

Patients can request an appointment at one of our local centres at the time that suits you.

Range of Services

Simple lower/upper limb arterial assessment (£47) – assessment of waveforms, pre & post-exercise ankle blood pressures and simple assessment for thoracic/popliteal entrapment.

Carotid artery duplex (£47) – Surgery in patients with asymptomatic severe carotid stenosis can prevent stroke. Patients with non-specific symptoms of cerebral ischaemia, a family history of vascular disease, or with high risk factors for vascular disease should be offered a carotid artery duplex scan.

Aortic Aneurysm Screening (£47) – AAA screening is now available to all men aged 65. Direct relatives of patients with known AAA or with a clinical suspicion of AAA should be offered screening.

Deep vein thrombosis (£57 unilateral) – despite NICE guidelines, ultrasound is the most cost-effective way to assess lower limb swelling or pain. Not only does it provide a definitive DVT diagnosis in over 80% of all patients it can also identify differential diagnosis such as superficial thrombo-phlebitis, rupture Bakers cyst, haematoma, muscle tear, popliteal aneurysm etc.

Varicose vein assessment (£57 unilateral) – it is often difficult to determine whether patients meet NICE guidelines for treatment of varicose veins and patients rejected for treatment on the NHS often pay excessive sums (>£2,000 per limb) for private treatment or are financially excluded from treatment and repeatedly represent to their GP.

There are now a wide range of minimally invasive treatments which significantly reduce the cost of treatment.

It is essential patients have a full ultrasound assessment of veins prior to treatment to select the optimum treatment of your veins. Poor diagnosis and inappropriate treatment can lead to early recurrence of varicose and spider veins.

We have developed a NEW SPECIALIST VARICOSE & SPIDER VEIN TREATMENT SERVICE with our partner Diagnostic Healthcare.

This service aims to provide a service to CCGs for NHS funded treatment at less than national tariff or an affordable alternative for self-pay patients at approximately half the cost of standard private treatment.
