IVS can set up a fully comprehensive Vascular Diagnostic Unit tailored to the unique needs and service requirements of an NHS Trust Hospital.
Excluding the cost of training staff, IVS can save 17% to 34% of the cost of setting up and running a vascular laboratory. IVS offers flexible services to meet the requirements of individual hospitals using hospital or IVS instruments or equipment as required. In both cases, IVS charge a cost per scan and guarantees to achieve targets or deadlines set by individual trust (waiting times of less than three weeks, 95% of inpatients investigated the same day etc).
NHS Trusts benefit from reduced capital expenditure and lower staff and administration costs. Service volumes can be adjusted annually protecting the Trusts from stepped capital and staffing costs as demand increases. There is no risk of redundancy cost should the need for the service change.
The demand for trained vascular scientists is intense; staff costs and migration is high. IVS is committed to train at least four graduates/year. Spreading the investment risk across all services means IVS pricing is competitive whilst offering the highest quality of service.

Cost benefit of stroke prevention
Stroke accounts for 4% of the NHS annual budget. Each stroke costs between £10-13,000 in the first year alone. Twenty five percent of symptomatic patients with a 70% carotid artery stenosis detected by duplex ultrasound imaging will have a disabling stroke within three years. Saving just eight strokes per year will pay for a full-time IVS stroke service.
Reduced medico-legal expenses
NICE guidelines are that all patients suffering transient ischaemic attacks or stroke should have carotid duplex imaging within four weeks with higher risk patients investigated within 48 hours. NHS Trusts which fail to achieve this may be exposed to litigation. An IVS service guarantees carotid ultrasound waiting times in hours/days not weeks. IVS has recently launched a weekend on-call TIA service which ensures carotid duplex within 24 hours of symptoms, including bank holidays.
Failure to accurately diagnosis Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) commonly results in litigation with claims greater than the entire cost of a full time IVS DVT service.
IVS is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and is at the forefront of a government initiative to accredit vascular ultrasound services.
We also hold ISO9001 Certification for Quality Management systems for the provision of vascular ultrasound diagnostic services. We are committed to meet the needs of our customers and other stakeholderswhile meeting statutory and regulatory requirements related to our products and service delivery.
